The Chatham vacation that wasn't...

We left Saturday morning for what was to be an awesome vacation with just the 3 of us. I was really looking forward to spending time with both Steve and Cam before Baby B arrives. Unfortunately vacations never seem to go as planned in this house.

We arrived in Chatham right at 3 and unpacked a little before going to get something to eat. The house was nice! The kitchen had granite counter tops, a 6 burner cook top with a griddle and double ovens. Yeah, it was nicer than our kitchen here!

For an early dinner we went to the Wild Goose Tavern in the Wayside Inn where we had our rehearsal dinner for the wedding. The clam chowder is so good!! After dinner we walked around a little bit. We then took Cam to Oyster Pond so he could check out the water. It was so warm! He had no problem getting soaked!

He had so much fun running in and out of the water. His word of the day was "help." Someone had dug a big hole that was filled with water. Cam had a blast jumping into the hole. It was pretty deep so he couldn't get out. He'd say "help" and I'd have to help him get out. He must have jumped in and out 100 times!

After the beach we went back to the house to get Cam ready for bed. The sink was SO deep there was no need to put him in the tub!
Bed time is usually very easy for us. We're lucky in that aspect. Cam watches "Go Go" (Go Diego Go) then he knows its nite nite. Well, he was having none of that, especially when he saw he'd have to sleep in the pack n play. He wanted to be on the bed, so I laid with him until he fell asleep then we put him into the pack n play. Steve and I slept in the same room as him because it was a lot cooler in there. Cam kept tossing and turning and woke up around 2am. He wouldn't go back to sleep in the pack n play. So....into bed with us he went. Did I mention it was a full sized bed? Yeah, there wasn't much room for Steve and I never mind Cam the bed hog! Needless to say Steve and I got hardly any sleep that night.

Sunday morning Cam was awake with the birds at 5:30am. Mommy and Daddy were exhausted. I went back to sleep around 7am (Steve's the best) and slept until about 8:30. We got dressed to get some breakfast. We wanted to go to the Fairway Restaurant in Eastham but when we got there there was a wait. We knew Cam would not sit still. Luckily there was a donut shop right there called Hole In One so we got some donuts and coffee. They were real homemade donuts. I think that's the first time I've ever had one! Cam enjoyed his!

After we ate we continued up Rte 6 East. We drove through Wellfleet Center (don't blink or you might miss it!). I wanted to walk around Provincetown but by the time we got there Cam was alseep.

On the way home we drove by this beautiful place! Oh the memories!

Cam was just waking up and not in the best of moods so we couldn't walk around. We figured we'd come back another time and get some lunch. We went back to the house and Cam played on the deck with some toys.

He wasn't in the best of moods. He was being really fresh and just not himself. We thought maybe it was because he didn't get to run around much so we took him to the playground that is right behind Veteran's Field where the Chatham A's play.

After he played for a little bit we went back to the house and had some dinner. We followed our bed time routine and Cam just wasn't having it. He would NOT sleep in the pack n play again. this time Daddy got to lay down with him until he fell asleep. We were smart this time and we all slept in the Queen sized bed! Again Cam was up during the night and again at 5:30am.

Monday morning we went back to Oyster Pond for a little bit. The day started off beautiful but the clouds and winds came quick so we didn't stay for too long besides Cam was exhausted and cold.

Back to the house we went where it was another battle for him to go down for a nap. --Are you noticing a pattern? One of us laid down with him and he slept for 3 hours! Stupidly Steve and I thought he had finally gotten used to being away from home. When he woke up we went to an early dinner at the Chatham Squire (again oh the memories!). When we got home he played outside for a little bit, had a bath, watched some tv and the bed time battle began. I think Steve laid down with him this night. For the past couple of days we had been realizing that it was so much more work being down there and it wasn't a "vacation." We had to drive to everything (we were about a mile or so from town)including the beach. We couldn't just go walk around town because I can't walk for too long. There wasn't a yard for Cam to play in, only a deck. I sat on the couch Monday night by myself because Steve was in with Cam. We weren't having much fun.

Tuesday morning rolls along nice and early at the new wake up time. Daddy went and got some donuts for us. We were contemplating going home. I was upset, Steve was exhausted and Cam was a mad man. After a few tears (by me) and a long talk Steve and I decided it wasn't worth being down there any longer. We were all walking Zombies from not sleeping for 3 nights. So, we packed up our stuff and headed home. Our Chatham vacation was over.

Cam fell asleep in the car but we were able to transfer him into his crib. Tuesday night was a bit rough. He wouldn't go to sleep in the crib by himself. Why would he? He'd been spending the past few nights in a bed with us. He woke up so many times that night. At least we were in our own bed!

Wednesday morning we went out for breakfast at the Omelet Factory. Cam LOVED the "shots" of half and half just like his Uncle John used to! Steve thought I was nuts for letting him drink them but hey, it kept him quiet!

After breakfast we took Cam swimming at the pond. He had fun playing in the water with Daddy.

I was sad that we weren't in Chatham on a real vacation but being home was so much better for Cam which meant for us too. I stopped thinking of the money we completely wasted and just took it as a very expensive lesson....Vacation + The Bliss Family = DISASTER!!!!
